The Failure of Public Health is Failing the Health of the Public

Malta has a Worrying Excess Mortality Problem

Given that you can only die once, how can Malta continue to have excess deaths EVERY month but 1 since June 2020?

And in that month there was only 0.8% LESS deaths than expected!

HOW BIG is the Excess Mortality Problem?

4 times in the past 57 months from January 2020 to September 2024 Malta recorded the HIGHEST monthly Excess Mortality amongst the 27 EU countries

Top 10 a staggering 65% of the months

Top 5 more than 40% of the months

Top 3 a crazy 35% of the months

That is more than ONE IN EVERY THREE months

Malta was above the EU average 75% of the months

This Graph shows the highest excess mortality every month as well as Malta and the EU average

Why is the Maltese pattern so different?

Excess mortality occurs when the number of deaths in a month exceeds the average number of deaths from that month over the past five years

The number represents the amount of people who have died SOONER than the historical pattern would suggest.

It is to be expected that you will have both positive and negative months where deaths exceed or are lower than the expected levels.

Even Cyprus, who has had the highest excess mortality throughout the EU and incredible NINE months out of the past 57 has both positive and negative months and a pattern more consistent with the EU average.
